Pros
I am happy with this modem and it was worth the aggravation. Since so many people are concerned about product and company origins these days. To complete.
A reboot brings the 5ghz bands back.
Bought the netgear cax30 and since installation have not been disappointed. Performance-wise, the cax30 offers impressive speed and reliability. These modem/routers run very warm, and need cool air circulating around them at all times.
Cons
Nighthawk app is a total failure. Save yourself the time, money and blood pressure medication, just buy the arris surfboard modem and a google wifi or tp-link deco. This is the worst device i have ever had the displeasure of working with.
Mtu is not the problem, but drops in wireless connectivity are semi-rare. The router needs a reset every week or it will drop from gig speed to 100 mb on ethernet. It says if offers 1 gig capacity, but the most it downloaded was 93.
Each time the router drops the connection to the modem, i can't get it reconnected. Rebooting the modem didn't solve the issue. Then started having issues with restarting. My unit must be rebooted in order to get a decent speed.

Very good product, easy to install and it compatible with xfinity
Easy to set up, great coverage and fast speeds.
Avoid the comcast chats and phone calls, they can be time consuming and frustrating.
During initial setup the xfinity website would not accept the mac address.
Price
I figure the payback will be in a year.
Nothing wrong with a refurbished model and the price was right.
Shipping
A quick call to my isp with the mac address and i was in business within minutes.

I’ve recently got this modem to replace the rental unit i had with xfinity.
The set up was remarkably easy and done through the netgear and xfinity apps.
