The unit works fine with all external hdd via usb 3. Just wish more hdd were on their hql. I have it configured with with (2) 2tb western digital drives.
Super-easy with win7 and xp to get to the device in network and copy and paste files. You have to access it manually, but it's just straight-forward.
Cons
I could never get the device to appear on my network or on my dhcp client list on my router. There wasn't even a web page for this device on netgear's website.
Software, while somewhat easier to navigate, is a broken, buggy mess. It seems that netgear wrongly packaged and labeled some v1's as v2's.

Never a issue with readynas duo v2
I destroyed a 3tb wd drive because i pulled it out as it was formatting.
Not that i mind--i'm never going to fill the first 1tb disk anyway.

Con software is kinda lame really could use some work there but i was able to get everything done

Then under the routing section click ip address distribution

On the bottom left click add static connection

Otherwise the router will occasionally change the address and the nas will no longer appear in your explorer windows on the computers in your network

But netgears wizard code is somehow broken and i have seen many other problems as well when using their wizards
