Pros

The mx856 fits a tad bit large for me, but they are perfect when jogging and walking on the tread and elliptical. This is the only type of shoe i can get in a 6e width. The only thing i have a problem with is that little toe cap.

Other than minor styling changes, the only real difference is that the 857 is all leather except for the tongue. Was fitted for shoe at local store specializing in new balance.

This shoe lives up to it's heritage. Great shoes. No complaints.

They're a little heavy, and mildly stiffer than many athletic shoes. In addition to the good arch support for the pf, they are genuine leather so they breath and don't get stinky. Like them very much.

Cons

The sides of the sneakers are not at all durable. The toe area is too tight. The quality is very obviously diminished from the 856.

It's worth spending a little more to move away from the lesser expensive new balance cross trainers.
