Pros & Cons
Pros
Frank quitely's art is an awesome and refreshing change from the 90s stereotypical x-men. Wolverine is truly a little hairball of a rugged man. I definably want him more on the x-men than on batman or green lantern.
The art is beautiful and easily communicates the actions and emotions of the characters. Most of the artwork is good and the storytelling makes up for this. Cyclopes is actualy tall and slim.
There are places where things feel'scrunched together' and a bit hurried.
Frank quitely, ethan van sciver, and leinil francis yu all do an outstanding job. Quitely is quite good in a non-quiet way.
Grant morrison is undeniably, unabashedly brilliant. These are the three runs that i hold in particular esteem.
Cons
Whedon / cassady's astonishing x-men is very poorly written. I lost all interest in the book once they decided to introduce intergalactic characters, makes no sense to me. While he does an amazing job of giving the x-men a kick into modern times, the ... Read More
With such poor art and writing, it comes off as disconnected and confusing. There is no movement in the frames and nearly every page has the same generic layout of squares or rectangles. The dialogue is extremely stiff, and morrison lacks subtlety whe... Read More

Highlights
Quality
All in all, even with the uneven art, i still heartily recommend this collection of my favorite marvel comic.
The stories are generally arranged in arcs, with the last one, imperial, mostly the best.
I came in much later than this volume in the run, but the quality of it made me trek down the original issues which were just a... Read More
Based on the description i was completely and totally satisfied with the purchase of this book in this condition.
Packaging/appearance
Morrison has breathed new life into the x-men.
Its not that its over your head so much as he just leaves things out, and not left out in the form your own opinion type of way.
There is no better place for it than in the adolescent daydream playland of the x-men.
Competitiveness
It helps one (particularly a long-time reader) understand why certain changes were implemented.
This is one of the best colection of x-men comics (or graphic novels) ever, period.
In an age of super-decompressed story lines, morrison throws out more jaw-dropping ideas in 22 pages than most can hopelessly s... Read More

It seems as if they both had a gun pointed at their head and if they didnt finish the entire issue in 20 minutes they would die
