I did research and noticed the reviews of this product were mostly positive

The two negative trends among the reviewers came either from people who had used it incorrectly the directions clearly say not to put the lid in the dishwasher because the harsh detergents will ruing the gasket and yet people had and then complained that the gasket was worn out after less than a year or from people who did not like the noise level

Yes mine had a smell but it was more of the new electric appliance smell of a machine that had never been used and went away after a few uses
