I have had no problems at all with the case and have had mine for at least a year now.
For me i bought this to use with the cpp and versatility which far out weighted the cons.
Sadly, with the new nintendo 3ds being the new system it's hard to find one of these for the regular 3ds xl.
As expected from an officially licensed nintendo product you get both quality and some protection.

My previous case before this one was no good it was plastic and left scratches on it

The package contains 2 separate pieces made of 90 95 clear polyurethane pieces a top sleeve and bottom which are both form fitted for a 3ds xl

Ill attempt to describe coverage of both pieces to the best of my ability as they are not easily determinable from the pictures

The sleeve also fully protects the top screens sides except for the open gap where the 3d slider is

The side does overlap slightly on the other side but it does not interfere with opening or closing of the device and still looks completely flush

The top sleeve ends before the hinge check the 4th posted picture to see on a closed 3ds it ends slightly before the visible hinge line
