Pros

This deck is on the traditional japanese side. It has a nintendo seal on the box, and it's all around just a delightful hanafuda deck. The clear holder box is what you’re paying extra for.

It comes with both koi-koi instructions and another game called 88 i believe, but those are in japanese. The instructions are all in japanese, but it's very easy to find instructions online.

Still very tile like and make a clack sound when thrown on the table. The material feels sturdy, almost like wood (though they aren't) they are nice and thick, and deliver a nice smacking sound when you place them down.

The are much smaller than standard 52-card deck of playing cards, but they are much thicker and have a very quality feel to them. Unlike american cards which are flimsy and easily bent, these cards have some weight to them and i feel that when i play ...  Read More

As someone majoring in japanese language and studies at my local university, i absolutely love these cards! There are cheaper hanafuda cards on amazon (or at daiso if you're lucky), but the box these ones come in is much nicer. Cards are just as adver...  Read More

Cons

The card stock is razor-thin and the print quality is very poor. It is so fragile that it should be careful to be packaged. Opened it up nope. The case was shattered.

Quality

He thought it was really cool and we were both impressed by the quality of the cards (very different than normal playing cards).

I was rather surprised to learn that nintendo got their start as a hanafuda company, but it shows through the quality.

Unfortunately the quality of this deck is so high, she doesn't want to play with them.

Even that is not as bad as it seems, for one could use that time to familiarize oneself with the rules of the game, which can e...  Read More

Shipping

Only flaw is that when i received the product the plastic casing for the cards had a really large crack in it (no doubt from shipping).

Packaging/appearance

The packaging was beautiful and so are these cards!

As well, the outer plastic packaging had a x000 sticker on it, which would've been dissapointing had i intended to give this as a gift.

This 49-card deck does not contain the extra jokers, nor does it have the point values printed on the cards.

They are tiny thick cards, not like playing cards you'd use in poker the artwork on the packaging is charming and box is sealed nicely.

Competitiveness

Especially since thats what they made a looooong time ago.

I'll probably have to buy a 2nd set.
