Pros & Cons
Pros
Stone is large enough to sharpen large kitchen knives without awkwardness. They have a more consistent grit than diamond stones and can take a great deal of *.
I just use wd-40 and it works great. Nice combo. Victim of nafta. Really good bang for your buck.
The norton india stone gives a very nice toothy edge, without the bevels looking like they've been put on a low grit bench grinder. It's better than the $40 electric sharpener i used to have. These are part of my daily hand plane sharpening routine. I... Read More
The crystolon soaks up oil like a dried sponge. No soaking, no flattening, very little mess. The 320 side is more than enough for any full knife to get her going again.
Perfect 2 rough and finish grits. The black side is 100 grit. The red side is 320. Buy two and finish them together on you surface grinder.
Highlights

From the research i did, this was a great stone and with the double sides it means only one instead of two are needed.
Best quality stone i've purchased and the way it's made it will probably be my last.
Price
I recommend it as effective and reasonable in price.
Shipping
Metal cutting was fast on the coarse side and still pretty quick on the "fine".
Because i did not find the chipped part in the box, it leads me to believe this is a qc issue, and it did not happen during shipping.
Packaging/appearance
So my very first impressions of this stone and its packaging are very impressive.
Competitiveness
You need a sharping stone if you own a knife this i da is fantastic for all / everyday user knives for various cuttings
I have had several whetstones over the years, but i find this to be my favorite, hands down.

If you have a block full of henckels or wustholf knives or vintage carbon sabatiers or the like this may be the only stone you need to keep them sharp in fact norton markets this stone in a plastic case and with a small bottle of oil specifically as a culinary sharpening kit

Ive used japanese waterstones for decades mainly for woodworking tools chisels plane blades and never really paid much attention to this stone largely because i associated with the filthy dished crystolon stones i saw carpenters use when i was a kid and because waterstones sort of became the standard at some point and were what i grew up with
