Pros

Everything was packaged well. Rather expensive, but relatively a bargain. The packaging is a joke, which is fine with me.

Kenji lopez-alt's the food lab features a couple page text box on the benefits of sharpening your own knives using waterstones.

Stones are still thick after lots of flattening. Sharpening stones and flattening stone have no damage, no knicks or anything. Flattening stone is a must. Yes, the stones are costly but i am sure our son will appreciate inheriting them.

These stones should last through thousands of hones. The extra flattening stone makes maintaining them a cinch. The 8k grit stone makes a nice shaving edge, if done properly.

Cons

It's just inexcusable that one would have to flatten new stones before their first use. The flattening stone is nearly bowed around 1/8 of an inch. The abrasives seem to just wear away rather than remove steel.

Do not buy them. This really stinks. I wish i could express my anger at this foolishness without the use of profanity.

These stones are used to sharpen clipper blades for my wifes salon.

I kept the unused stone soaking in a 9x13 pyrex container while i used the other stone on a towel on my kitchen counter.
