Hill introduces a character who keeps a paperweight on their book, and the paperweight is a literal chekhov's gun. Hill keeps the novel refreshing with every chapter and heartpounding up until the final revelation within the last couple pages.

    It gave so many chances to fail but it consistently wrapped it back around and thats where i think the novel excels
