Pros

Recently remodel my bathroom, i have an old rusted cast iron *. Great solution to finishing a bathroom in a basement that was roughed in with cast iron.

Using a hammer to break up the rust around the edge of the pipe, then scouring the inside walls with a * bit opened the pipe up. Just stick it in, screw it down, and tighten with alan wrench.

Nice tight fit. Expands nicely. Great invention.

Cons

Piece of *. The compressible seal is only as thick as a rubber band. That is when i decided to remove and get some wood shims under it. This item is a good fix for that, but just horribly made.

Packaging/appearance

I used one spacer but it was placed underneath the 43538 so no risk of that leaking.

The flange flap folded into the drain creating flushing restrictions.

Was redoing the bathroom and one of the to-do was the toilet.

Can be a challenge to get screws into the subfloor, had to angle them.

Competitiveness

I was not sure when to stop and was afraid i would break it by overtightening.

Due to all the rusted iron bits around the pipe the neck of the flange initially did not fit in the pipe

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I will say that once the replacement flange goes it it is very difficult to get out of the old pipe again

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Wear a p100 mask while you do this work and ventilate the room keep it away from the rest of the house these old pipes used molten lead or lead based silicon for attachments of joints even if youre not near a joint your old castiron flange will have been poured in place with lead of some sort use a mask and ventilate dont be stupid

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

For extra measure i used silicon on the inside of the flange to ensure there was a tight seal but thats not needed for an install you will be caulking around your toilet anyway which will prevent any backflush

If you have an old house you may also have gurgling problems from inadequately vented pipes

But i really was expecting it to be cast iron when i was reading it on amazon it made me feel it was cast iron maybe i just did not look at it good enough i just know this companys out there today even little or big can be very misleading on the things they try to sell you knowing it not right no integrity no more they just want you to buy it

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

This caused leaking under the tile

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Using the 43538 it raised the lip just above the tile
