It also by nature of being silicone has a bit of friction against a smooth porcelain surface

This friction doesnt at all scratch mind you but if one has a desire to just toss the strainer to the drain the strainer isnt as likely to slide along a smooth surface to settle into the drain

Not that ive encountered the following because the outer rim would normally prevent this from happening but unlike rigid strainers it is possible to deform this strainer such that it itself can enter the drain
