The glass bulb breaks. Its slow (at best) buy the cheap disposable pens and forget about oem's like ohaus and hms. The name goes on before the quality goes in.

If it does break it is not the meters fault but is instead user error

If you find it begins to read more slowly you are not storing correctly or you have fouled the probe with contaminants such as phosphate which is common in agriculture and aquarium applications

Keep in mind the cheaper 20 meters may seem more consistent but that is only because they are much less accurate and are essentially junk in my opinion
