Pros & Cons
Pros
It's a bit costly but the quality of this product is one of the best! This stuff is the real deal. Appreciate my dedicated friends at stateside that have dedicated themselves to continue to acquire ohsawa from japan.
Great alcohol flavor, very sweet, a full of flavor butterscotch note. Excellent flavor, great viscosity. The flavor can't be beaten.
Excellent for stir fry and removing the gamey-ness of meats. This is the best tasting mirin ive ever cooked with.
Sweet but not overpowering. Not overly sweet; no corn syrup like most products. Natural sweetness from fermentation.
This mirin is an improvement over the sugary substitutes i am accustomed to getting in my local markets. Usually i get kikkoman manjo aji-mirin, which has the main ingredient of glucose syrup.
Cons
The mirin tastes weaker than others i've bought too. I'm not sure this isn't fake. Not ordering this again.
Highlights
Quality
I buy the best quality food to prepare…the quality of every ingredient is important and this is so tasty.
Excellent for stir fry and removing the gamey-ness of meats.
At some point after weeks of owning this, when i went to use the mirin the cork split and cracked completely.
Over time the cork gets stuck to the inside neck and pieces break off when i try to open it.
Price
Very expensive in my opinion, but we love it.
The price has definitely gone up though.
Shipping
Needed one quickly without the burden of shopping, and found this on amazon.
The price was very good and it was here so quickly.
Packaging/appearance
Comes in a nice thick glass bottle.
Came in with cap cracked and contehts spilled.
Competitiveness
It has an authentic flavour and usefulness in cooking that is way better than most other brands.
There is such a taste difference between what is usually labeled as mirin in our asian market and the genuine article.
Smells and tastes different than the minrin you find in the stores.
