Clearly we are treated to the descriptive use of the english language at the time how it so much defers from ‘modernized’ version of the language we currently use

But perhaps the greatest eye opener is on the racial prejudice and general ignorance of the time the few reference to the negroid people is in bad taste and the detailed descriptions and reference to the 2 jewish characters in the book criminal or not surely tells a lot about the underlying stereotype or bias of the era towards semitic immigrants of jewish heritage
