Pros & Cons
Pros
There is some breathing, to be certain, depending on the situation. The macro ability could have been just a tad better. With both mounted on my olympus e-pl1 it's the same kind of fast, easy to operate camera as the leica.
This lens gets trashed too often by many reviewers. It is so simple yet lightweight even kids can handle it. It's compactness and lightweight makes it perfect for taking cinema quality videos of my hikes.
When paired with right camera bodies, it becomes jacket pocketable2. This lens is a perfect fit for any of the pens or either version of the em-10. Fits nicely into the stylish minico pu leather camera case for olympus om-d em10 mark ii.
It provides photographs with a coherent and constant framed view. It is well-suited for street scenes, outdoor markets, and grouped photos of friends. I am a passionate amateur photographer who travels regularly.
Cons
While that speed might have been useful a few years ago, the newer olympus sensors work just fine for me at 3200 iso and higher. Buyer beware, this lens is completely unsuitable for filming videos.
Highlights
Quality
It is well made and fits my e-p3 perfectly.
I got this lens for my gf1 and it is simple as plug n play, the lens is very well build and very compact.
This 17mm lens gives me an equivalent 34mm (in full frame equivalent) and doesn't extend way out of the camera.
Unfortunately, the autofocus is noisy and spasmatic, so this lens is absolutely not suitable for video.
Price
For basically the cost of a used e-p3 body i also got a couple hundred bucks worth of excellent lens.
I actually got this lens as a bonus on a used e-p3 body i bought for less than $225 here on amazon.
I then found this lens with p1 for around $140 used.
I paid about $120 for one in used condition, which seems to be slightly below its current going price== pros ==1.
Packaging/appearance
It also looks pretty gorgeous, and fits nicely into the stylish minico pu leather camera case for olympus om-d em10 mark ii.
Also, the compact size combined with the em-5 makes for a very small package that i can slip in my coat pocket on my way out the door.
Competitiveness
I had previously considered the panasonic version, having read multiple glowing reviews about how much better it is than the ol... Read More
The 35mm equivalent format is what's used in fuji's x100s and the one favored by many enthusiasts.
This one i would not sell even to fund the sigma 60mm prime that i totally covet.
Actually, the af speed is same or faster than the famous and widely popular panasonic 20mm f/1.
