They must be used on a flat level surface as youd expect of any proper precision measuring device of this sort a carpeted surface will result in a false reading

Withings also make excellent scales but you can expect to pay almost twice as much for their data functionality

The top surface is glass supported by plastic at the bottom

There were a couple of minor issues worth pointing out i found the scales only worked on a hard floor on a carpet the reading was completely inaccurate

The button to do this is underneath the machine and you cant switch between these until the machine is on
