Yes there is a high pitched noise when the el wire is illuminated but it is pretty faint and if you wrap the inverter in something as small as a micro fiber rag it is almost entirely muffled

Out of the 12 or so people i showed it to only 3 or 4 noticed any noise at all when it was unmuffled

The other reviews are right this is just an el wire that is moldable

It does emit a buzzing sound but that can be blocked by other material i mounted mine to acrylic board and hung it on the wall can barely hear it
