I've done a few hundred slides and negatives with this unit and the quality of the scans and the ease of use are really great.

First off, don't even bother with the included software just toss it.

I am not sure i could have mastered it at all if i hadn't already been familiar with the functions and terminology of this type software.

Price

Vuescan is one of the user-recommended programs, and i gave it a trial first.

Shipping

Highest resolution scans are not fast, but i'm fine trading the extra time for the ease of operation.

Packaging/appearance

On windows 10, i could not install the drivers without errors using the plustek installer either before or after installing silverfast.

Competitiveness

The plustek opticfilm scanner does a fantastic job of capturing the boxes of slides that i have and saving them digitally.

But - be prepared for some experimental pre-work, and a fair amount of tedium.

I recommend vuescan, although i have not even tried the software plustek provided.

If scanning time and disk space are not a concern, this is going to capture the most information from the scan, with 500mb per file.
