Pros & Cons
Pros
All of these style flaring tools make it easy to mess up your flare. Extreme pressure grease seems a good choice for hard to flare tube only if you thoroughly solvent clean after. The lubricant decreases the force necessary to flare smoothly.
Ridgid 29983 223s stainless steel pipe reamer, 1-1/4-inch inner/outer reamer. It's much cheaper than a nice hydraulic flaring tool, like from say eastwood, or mastercool. I am a little disappointed in the tubing cutter that comes with this.
A total winner. Bought it for a one time use. Money well spent, money well saved.
Once it's prepped with care, the rest goes quick and easy. My creed is check your work at every step, and then do a final test. Every once in a while you still get a surprise when something just doesn't behave even though you thought you nailed it.
Cons
Wobble in the tip causes the flares to be formed so far off-center that they don't seal well. This tool is supposed to do bubble flares, it doesn't. Spent the money on the eastwood flaring tool and get excellent, perfect flares every time.
The tubing cutter is so dull it takes ages to cut steel tubing. A $10 harbor freight tubing cutter runs circles around the one this kit comes with. Broke on first use. Wasnt much better then the $30 harbor freight one.
Otc * are too short. Too much slop in the vice tip, this causes the flare/shaping mold to have uncentered clamping force. The holding bar is so weak that when you tighten the end wings it just slips. The large tubing sizes in the middle where the weak... Read More
Highlights
Quality
Accuracy of this kit and build quality is superior to anything else i tried.
Everything in the kit appears to be pretty good quality, except the tubing cutter.
But every one of them has left something to be desired as far as ease of use or quality, or my flare… and let’s be honest, ever... Read More
A tubing bendwr would be a nice addition, but what is provided is of superior quality and design.
Price
Tried several other lesser price flare kits.
Shipping
This provider promised one day shipping, which i rarely use, but in this case warranted, and they produced.
Since i had a long weekend available to replace my brake lines, i couldn't wait for the shipping issue to resolve itself.
Packaging/appearance
Awesome product, good packaging, will last a long time, would recommend to a friend
Showed up on time, good packaging, nice case for all of the pieces.
The blade was pretty dull right out of the box.
Competitiveness
Works well, the first time i made a bubble flair it came out just wright well worth the price
Bottom line for a complete kit imo worth the one and done cost.
I bought a more expensive set at napa.
