I'm not a tech, and have been pleased with the ease of set up and use; small and quiet.

Competitiveness

I used it for a 4tb drive on older macbook pro with firewire 800.

We are using wd red nas 4tb drives with firewire 800 connection, and it works great.

Note that most older enclosures will not support drives larger than 2tb.

I have a 4tb hard drive in the first of these owc mercury elites that i purchased.

    My drive failed after using for a period of time but with a single call to owc support they were cooperative supportive and walked me through their return process

    Very expensive external drive case and the only reason for one to consider it is the option to use firewire 400 or 800 for an older mac

    There are far far cheaper choices for usb3 and esata for winboxes or probably more recent macs or those with usb3
