Quality
I recently bought a £4500 valve preamp as l was so impressed with the p1.
With high quality sound source and a good recording you will sense a much greater sound stage as well as depth/layers.
All in all it looks nice with the tubes.
However i have tried this preamp with my 32 years old sony ta f730es which puts out plenty of power but bit lacking in tonal quality.
Packaging/appearance
Worked out of the box, nothing at all to setup.
Competitiveness
Well the p1 replaced a smsl sanskrit pro dac which sounds too 'digital' to my ears.
Its connected to my maranzt amlifier and to the pc.
