I hope it lasts. Purchased and installed item in aug 2012. Due to constraints i chose to drill two 4 vent holes, they are at least 36 apart with the exhaust straight out and the intake with a 90 degree elbow pointed away from the exhaust hole.
This hrv has a computer controlled fan and a servo controlled damper. There has to be some smartness that keeps the heat and the moisture in.

We have been using it for a couple months now and it has drastically improved our air quality.
It provides the needed air exchange, refreshes the air and keeps the humidity at low levels and is extremely quite on 20cfm setting.
Prior to install a radon gas meter showed 3+ pc/l of radon, an indoor air quality meter rated the air quality as "poor".

Way worth it to spend a little more and get this rather than a loud nutone that won’t do anything.
The cost of installing though, far exceeds the cost to buy the unit.

I e-mailed them a copy of my amazon order, and they sent me a replacement part free of charge.
Competitiveness
It is a bargain solution compared to other whole-house units, as long as you don't need to move lots of cfm.
I think panasonic needs to product better hooking/screwing set up.

If you are living in or have guests sleeping in the space with this in it i recommend installing at the higher cfm rating before closing it up in the wallceiling

Keep in mind if its humid and hot outside humidity and temp will increase inside with use albeit slowly

We have a bunch of dogs and the c02 readings were crazy high after install it is down to less than half and no noticeable increase in electric cost or ac usage in texas

We live in a row home in the city where the neighbors smoke a lot and unfortunately the builders did not properly insulate between the walls of our two homes allowing that smoke to pass through to our house

We purchased the fv04e1 and tried it out by getting two vents that would fit in our window and setting the ventilator on the floor and connecting the two together
