Pros & Cons
Pros
The auto-stop feature prevents over-sharpening. It sharpens fast, doesn't get hot, no noticeable dust and keeps going. There is some technique involved in getting pencils sharpened when the lead is off center.
This pencil sharpener is worth every penny. It sharpens faster and to a sharper point than any sharpener i've ever used. The motor is identical in both units so i'd guess its just as good.
It works so well even a child can use it. Held up fairly well to classroom use in a fourth grade classroom. My kids use it every day when they do their homework. Not having to fix it or manipulate it is truly a blessing.
The sharpener is relatively quiet in comparison to other sharpeners. It sharpens quickly and is fairly quiet.
This one puts a perfect point on the pencils and doesn't chew half of the pencil up to do it. It has a very small footprint, which affords more options as to where one can place it. The only downside is the small tray for shavings.
Cons
Panasonic electric sharpeners are discontinued in the u. There is no comparison to the ones that use batteries or a razor blade to sharpen the pencil.
Highlights
Quality
Sharpener works great and has little suction cups on the bottom to hold it in place.
The motor seems to be quite strong, and the "automatic shutoff" feature works perfectly.
We had two cheapo elecric sharpeners that all wore out very quickly, a manual old fashioned one that also broke, and countless ... Read More
We had an old electric sharpener that worked great for over 15 years until it just got overloaded.
Price
It's well worth the money at double the price.
I highly recommend paying the slightly higher price for this great pencil sharpener.
It's proving to be worth the extra money paid.
$40-45 is actually a pretty small/reasonable price to pay for such an awesome little product.
Packaging/appearance
My wife sharpened about 50 colored pencils within five minutes of having it out of the packaging and each one was given a perfect point.
Competitiveness
The panasonic kp380-bk is as good as, or better, than any of them.
Comparing with our old cheaper electric sharpener, this one is worth the money.
We went through plenty of cheap sharpeners from walmart, target and office stores.
After trying a few other brands--mostly less expensive models--i came back to panasonic, and couldn't be happier.
