I gently tapped the camera body on a hard surface and pushed on the lens when i turned it on and back off.

I also bought the book for this camera on amazon by alexander white; very well worth the cost to learn all the intricacies of this camera.

I only lightly used it for the first five years with perhaps 1000 photos taken but it first saw extreme abuse after the first year of owner ship

I dont know how it happened but the camera fell into an ice chest and soaked in ice water for at least an hour before being found

I knew before i started that the camera probably wouldnt survive but decided that i needed its compact size and capabilities badly enough to use it anyway
