Pros & Cons
Pros
This is the best chain wear gauge i have seen. Beats having to hunch or sit down to read the others from the side. This tool checks the wear on that pin by measuring the distance between pins.
I am a 50+ year biker and this is a great tool. Would recommend every cyclist to own one. It doesn't matter what you ride - folding commuter, full-suspension downhill bomber, recumbent, or some frankenbike of your own creation.
Cons
Park tools generally, but this one is a bust. The cc-2 checker pushes against two different sides of the roller. This causes a bad chain to measure as good. Does work on my non campy chains, but does not work on my campy record 10 speed chains.
Highlights
Quality
So far this is sturdy and gives an accurate reading.
High quality park tool for measuring bicycle chain wear.
Do not apply too much pressure cause you can bend the pins and they are not replaceable.
Set the gauge at 0, insert between chain links, adjust until it stops, then read it.
Price
Expensive for what it is, but would purchase again (if lost).
A bit pricey but accurate (tested the old and new chains) and easy to read.
Packaging/appearance
The packaging it came in looked new and sealed but the actual tool has signs of wear so who knows if it's new or not.
Competitiveness
I have way too many chain measurement tools, including another park model, a pedro's model, and an old nashbar knockoff.
Compared to the simple pivot point and pointer of the cheaper models, much better.
There are cheaper alternatives and i'm sure they work quite well.
