Pros & Cons
Pros
Pentel makes quality mechanical pencils, especially its graph gear 1000 series, which are commonly used by drafting professionals. Loading is fine and it doesn't take too long for a new piece of graphite to come out.
The metal grip is fine for up to moderate use. They're nice and durable and while the barrels may be plastic, they hold up just fine.
The 1000 has a durable, spring-loaded clip, while the 500's is cheap. The 500's weight is closer to the tip, so some users might find it has better balance and a more effortless writing experience. Only complaint is the sharp end doesn't retract.
Cons
My problem with the pencil is that it no longer loads in lead.
Highlights
Quality
I was skeptical about not having rubber grip at first but the quality is amazing.
Either way, i'm happy to have it and they are of good quality.
Competitiveness
I have a graphgear 1000 but an artist needs a variety of pencils in different thicknesses and grades of lead.
Better than other pricey name brands, and even other pentel varieties.
I do not use the eraser in the back but a mars staedtler white eraser (i make lots of mistakes).
