I went with 16 gage wire after reading reviews on the thinner stuff breaking more easily and i dont regret the small outlay in extra money

It doesnt wildly unspool if you set the spool down and it doesnt hold a twist making it easy to lay out along your path

If you are running into this issue you need to swap the left and right “loop” wires going into the surge protector
