Pros & Cons
Pros
The sound signature is natural and easy going and has this wonderful texture i can only describe as deep. Rich layered sound and acute positional audio. Especially the soundstage is larger with the x3 iteration. I use it mainly with apple music, in th... Read More
Philips x3's are exceptionally comfortable. The clamping force is more than sufficient to ensure a good fit. Dekoni choice leather and suede pads, both are more comfortable than the stock pads.
The sound of these headphones is superb. I believe it's because these headphones are very well damped and hence very controlled by a gell dampening technology no one else is doing in the same way. These headphones sound better than my more expensive b... Read More
The roll offs for the bass is a lot more controlled and smoother with the x3. I own the shp 9500 and 9600, and the x1s and x2hr and this tops them in every way.
The layering on the x3 is very well done. The detail on the craftsmanship of the product is excellent. The minimalist styling similar to what b&o would produce.
Cons
This headset has a proprietary pin layout. The cord is very long and is not coiled. The cable ends are marked with a barely perceptible l and r embossed into the plastic. The sound quality is great but the strap that moves up and down to keep it at a ... Read More
Highlights
Quality
Great quality headphones with a huge soundstage and great imaging.
Nice and soft, don’t hurt your ears, some adjustability, built in microphone, don’t seem super sturdy but at least they are light weight.
Including tape hiss, drop outs, bad recording techniques in the studio recording and mastering.
I've had trouble with some headphones/iems in the past due to a sensitivity i have to the 2-3k frequency range.
Price
This is a very good buy at its current price.
For the current discount it's a great buy.
The asking price when these were released (2020) was $300-350 for the headphones.
I didn't buy these before now because i couldn't justify the price (didn't buy my 660s) but if i could have test driven before ... Read More
Competitiveness
I have the dekoni choice leather and suede pads, both are more comfortable than the stock pads.
Comparisons:660s the whole mix and incredible imaging.
After comparing these to the beyer and the philips shp9500, these blow those other two away.
I did not listen to other headphones for a day before throwing the x3s on again (i believe this is what skews so many reviews—e... Read More

For the audiophiles yes the x2hrs are better

Sound wise they aren’t terribly different from x2hrs but i’d still say the former are better for a more flattened response

Soundstage is nearly identicalfrom my ears and for around the same price i don’t think you could do wrong with either option

I’m amused that some reviewers didn’t consider the x3 an improvement over the x2 because the x3 is according to them more sonically accurate

It also looks great imo but how headphones look should be the last criterion in choosing which headphones to buy imo

As they are currently widely discounted you can get a pair for a bargain price

I fall outside of what seems to be a majority of listeners who dig the x2 and x2hr i tried both and returned both

They weren’t bad per se and i remember thinking “yeah those are worth 100150 but they don’t do anything my other headphones don’t do
