Pros & Cons
Pros
These are the only zigbee canless wafers on the market. They are super reliable and the color quality is top-notch. The one downfall is - they aren't super bright. The main reason i bought this is for the ease of access with apple homekit.
Hue lights integrate seamlessly with apple homekit, alexa as well as google for voice control. Even without a hue hub, and just echo devices, the adjustability of these is fantastic. Hue lights work seamlessly through the hue app and alexa.
They are a decent upgrade to 'dumb' recessed lights. The light looks great overall and it’s brighter than what i expected. They are packaged well.
Zero complaints. Not to hard. Saving power even. My only complaint is the lack of a “follow the sun’ feature.
Cons
Philips hue slim 6 downlight, white and color led smart light is not specific enough, apparently. The lights glow faintly 24/7 even when turned off. When used with standard wall dimmer they flicker.
Light is not really like a recessed canned as this light blinds you. The 3 friction slots are just horrible and to make matters worse you cannot press them in. You can damage the clean ridge around the down light canister. The clips scrape up the dryw... Read More
Highlights
Quality
They are super reliable and the color quality is top-notch.
Yeah, expensive, but hopefully the quality and support is there for many years from this well-established company.
I've also read of the same thing happening even with the hub.
However, if i install just one of the original led retrofit cans along with the philips, they all work.
Price
My only criticism is that the price needs to come down a bit.
I bought them off amazon for the return policy, price was the same but free shipping.
Competitiveness
Works well with my apple home, google home and smarthings platforms.
Hue might cost more than similar products, but you rarely have any issues.
Update: i was using a dimmable switch.
However slim versions do work fine and they are 220v compatible!
