Springy Nib
Customers are generally positive about the springy nib of the PILOT "CUSTOM 743 / Black" pen. They appreciate its flexibility and control, which makes it a favorite for long writing sessions. Some users find it to be on the softer side and require extra care to prevent unwanted flexing. The pen's balance and comfort are also highlighted as notable features.
Nib Performance

Highlights
Quality
This is a high quality pen that feels good in the hand.
The 743 is an extremely comfortable pen for long writing sessions - beautifully balanced, with just the right amount of heft.
That problem has been non-existent in all four of the 743 pens i own.

Its price point is an excellent value for the pen, especially here on amazon.
It is difficult to find in pen shops as this version was limited for sale in japan.
Shipping
It arrived faster than i expected as well
Packaging/appearance
On arrival, the plastic pilot box was a bit wonky (top off the hinges), but the nib is as hoped.
Competitiveness
For value and performance, the namiki (pilot) falcon been rated the best 14k flex nib in the marketplace.
Very similar to the pilot custom 912.
In reality, the nib has a fair amount of flex, on par with some vintage semi-flex nibs (think pelikan 100).
That said, they are very similar and very different.

If youve tried the fa nib in the pilot custom 912 with the 5 size nib or the larger 10 size nib available on the pilot 742 fountain pen and were disappointed i believe you owe it to yourself to try the larger still 743 with the highly coveted 15 size nib to truly appreciate the form and function of this fabulously flexible nib

The 15 nib is pilots premier nib it only fits in their largest pens thus more expensive

It may be however that this nib due to its unique design simply functions better with larger dimensions

The 10 nib in the 742 was a great improvement over the 912 but in my opinion the 15 nib in the 743 was a further improvement in the fa nib

It dont think the size of the nib was what was wrong with my 912s it was the feeds being either too slow or completely inefficient that really made my pens problematic something i heard from many owners of the fa nib in the 912 package
