This product is well made, and their heart to make excellent toys shines through.
One of the vegetables, the carrot, hardly sticks now (my daughter just got the set for xmas), it actually keeps separating on its own.
I do not own any "plan wood" items yet so i can't attest to their quality.
Price
I happen to have gotten them at a price that was cheaper then the plastic ones but they are worth a higher price regardless.

I definitely trust this brand more than hape.
I have both this set and the hape brand set, and i definitely prefer this set.
I find the fact that the fruits and veggies are less "detailed" than hape to be a good thing.

I know it says 3 years but the pieces are not that small and yes i would still watch them with it when you cut them in half although he did not try to put any in his mouth he just liked cutting and saying the names

The pieces of fruit that are cutable are held together with a piece of velcro and holds tightly i did read a review that mentions that it wears outs

The difference between them is that the piece on the left is made from something new called plan wood made from saw dust and glue and the piece on the right is made from solid rubber wood
