Pros
The rod and reel combo are much higher quality than anyone can expect for the price. The rod is very lightweight and strong, but the really impressive bit for me is the reel. The pole fits very comfortably in my hands!
The telescoping action is very convenient. The case fits very well in a 20l rei daypack. Comes with a semi-hard case, with a couple inside pockets.
The reel has an extremely smooth feel when casting and retrieving. Works smoothly, drag functions well, etc. The pole is responsive but still sturdy and stays in place perfectly.
It’s great for taking alone on the boat or kayak. It also includes some fishing line and fake bait and floaters, which he loved too. I wish there was more flex, kinda feels a bit numb when the fish actually strikes.
Bought this some months ago for my re-entry into fishing after a 50-year layoff. I own several brand name rod and reels costing much more, funny even when not traveling i still use this rod just because it has become one of my favorites.
Highlights
Quality
Reels seem to be well built with no issues and very smooth operation.
The quality was great and you do not have to worry carrying a long fishing rod in your car.
It was junk, and fell off the rod so no great loss.
It wasn’t flimsy and will likely last a while.
Price
Still a very good deal for the price, and love the telescoping, so can't complain too much.
Definitely looks like a higher end set-up than $40.
Didn't know what to expect but did not want to take my other rods as they were not as portable and expensive.

Update: vendor sent me a replacement product, very good customer service!
Packaging/appearance
I was pleasantly surprised to find such a neatly packed rod with the extra accessories included.
The products were well packaged and the quality seem great.
The thing is sturdy, collapses into a small package, comes with basics and a carry case.
Purchased a two pack, but only one hook keeper was in the accessories box.
Competitiveness
I could replace with a "higher end" reel, but i don't see the need so far.
