Pros & Cons
Pros
Good scanner, mostly does what it says it is going to do. Works great for scanning in 35mm film strips, and handle it smoothly. Great scan quality and easy to use. Great customer service.
This scanner is capable of producing high quality digital images from film. While i'm not a professional photographer, i like the fact that i can manually use apple photos to edit my results after the scan is complete. This is a full-featured scanner ... Read More
The slide holding tray provided is quite rugged. It's a keeper. This is especially true of the trays, which are often so flimsy in most scanners.
The slide scanner comes with two different trays - one for slides, the other for 35 mm negatives. I especially love the batch-scan feature - just press a button and walk away while it scans up to six negatives at a time.
Scanner is connected by cable and powered by the ac module. It comes with the scanner, power cord, usb cable, two can trays (for slides and negatives) the scan software it comes with is easy to configure.
Cons
It frequently crashes while scanning. High contrast images such as night shots have a hard time scanning. Auto multi-crop failed. Could not get it to accept the film tray even once.
Highlights
Quality
Great scan quality and easy to use.
The slide/negative trays are very heavy duty, probably the best i have ever seen.
The software is user friendly but it can only scan all six films in the scanning process, no function for selecting individual ... Read More

Price
It is nearly impossible for any company to be perfect and no matter how much you pay you may get a lemon from time to time.
Yes, you feel it is worth the price they charge.
Anyway - if you follow my workflow and trim the negatives slightly, you will get great and fast scans from a quite affordable scanner.
Shipping
The plustek support department sent out a replacement unit and it arrived in record time.
Contacted amazon who issued a return label immediately, and will process a full refund when the unit arrives back to them.
Waited a few weeks for the scanner to arrive, but each frame i scanned had a faint line through the resulting image.
Packaging/appearance
The seller is extremely clear who they are targeting this model for – the person who has those shoeboxes full of old family pictures.
Competitiveness
It does four slides at a time, which is what the other brands i tried did, but this was so much easier.
The 135i is much faster than my epson v600, even if it can only scan one 6-frame stripe at once.
There is no possible way to accurately show you the quality of an original 30 year old image and try to convince you what a sca... Read More
– again i would make that comparison to entry level dslr cameras.

The epson was doing ok for basic scans but zoomed in you could see that the details were really unsharpblurry and i regularly had problems with newton rings on my scans

I experimented a bit with antinewton glass inserts and slightly adjusting the height of the negative carriers to achieve better focus but without any success

It can produce large tiff files but color settings are quite limited

With the latest july 2024 vuescan update it only takes one pass for the color and infrared scan and scanning a full film strip takes around 57 minutes depending on the sizenumber of negatives

I only scan at 3600ppi as 7200ppi takes much much longer and does not yield any extra details according to online tests the actual effective resolution of the 135i is 3280ppi which is a huge upgrade from the epsons effective 1560ppi

This gives me a resolution of around 5000x3300 or 16mp on a standard 36x24mm frame
