Silverfast is strong but not well packaged, in terms of design. The included software (silverfast) is a big help when dealing with tricky colour casts/dust and other imperfections.

We have literally thousands of old slides from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The slide holder accommodates a variety of slide mounts.

Real pro quality and the software is exceptional as well. It comes with good installation structions and user guide, both quality prints and online video (via youtube & quicktime).

Cons

Images show the plustek (while the color is much better, once again, the lack of clarity and graininess are a bummer) and the kodak scanza results. This scanner is not isrd (infrared dust and scratch removal) capable.

All in all an excellent product at a reasonable price.

Best scanner on the market for the money.

Only paid $180 dollars plus a cheap adapter.

After spending $85 to develop and scan 4 rolls at my local lab, i decided i couldn't stomach paying that much money for another 4 rolls!

Five star service - received as ordered and quicker than projected.

The scanner is very well packaged in its original box.

And then the scanner with its original box is packed in another amazon box.

I came across boxes and boxes full of my old slides that had made it through multiple moves.

Silverfast is strong but not well packaged, in terms of design.

Competitiveness

The silverfast 8 software provides many more options than the quickscan, and one can produce digital files in a variety of formats.

That said i the combination of the 8100 and the silverfast software is probably one of the best values out there.
