:)speed depends on the quality you demand.

Don't waste time on the cheaper scanners like i did to get disappointed with the image quality.

Competitiveness

The plustek opticfilm scanner does a fantastic job of capturing the boxes of slides that i have and saving them digitally.

I might compare it with driving a chevy ii versus a corvette.

I wish you could buy the unit w/o silverfast since that seems to be ~$75 - $100 of the price.
