Pros & Cons

Update Pros and Cons

Pros

Product is as accurate as you are. The * is easy to use and accurate. While the instructions are a bit cryptic, if you take your time, it all makes sense.

This sure beats a chisel method! Bye bye hammer and crappie chisel. The only thing is is if they would include extra duplex nails.

There have been some observations about the quality and durability of the router bit. The only downfall is the bit.

Cons

The products primary shortcomings include:1. The packaging is terrible. This seems unnecessarily complicated. The only thing acceptable about this item is the price, and i gladly would have paid twice as much for a product that worked well.

The template is ok but the provided fastening to the door being routed is poor. When routing the jamb side, the teeth on the adjustment mechanism are not flush with the face of the template. I am no newbie to routers, i have 3 and about 50 bits.

The mortising bit on this cheap * is total junk. Even with shallow passes this bit smoked and barely got the job done in one scrap walnut board. This * just isn't rigid enough to give the mortise a uniform depth.

Quality

Quality jig for door jams and makes quick work of installing hinges on wooden doors.

And i appreciate the fact it comes with the router bit(1/4in).

The mortising bit that comes with the jig will only handle and dozen or so mortises before it’s done.

I added one layer of electrical tape on the sides and bought a 1/2” carbide bit and swapped the bushing with the one off the included bit.

Packaging/appearance

But was assembled backward out of the package.

The writing stamped on the frame actually hangs up the router base but it’s workable

I could have hand mortised the hinges but wanted it to look decent

Took very little to line up and adjust then just ran the router for a few seconds

I almost went insane until i figured out i could flip the adjustable parts over

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Some of the reviewers showed pictures of cut up templates if you are doing it correctly the router bit should never touch the plastic
