Yes someone does get killed but we aren’t subjected to the gruesome details or playbyplays that other mysteries sometimes give us

I didn’t notice going into the story that this is the fifth book in the series but thankfully it can easily be read as a standalone and i didn’t feel like i was ‘missing’ anything by not having read the previous books first
