The instructions do not really make it clear but i figured it you still need to have an existing onoff mechanism

The bottom part that attaches to the wall is a dummy base no water goes in there only at the top and none of the grohe valve positions are for onoff

My existing moen onoff lever however was right in line with the what would be the middle of the gohe fixture and it isnt flat enough against the wall to fit behind it

Short story is had to pay a plumber to move around some pipes to make it fit
