Useful protection for the lens but only if you choose to keep it on without the lens cover that comes with the camera

If youre looking for a lens hood for a canon powershot sx40 hs or powershot sx50 hs as those are the only 2 cameras ive personally used it on then i would recommend it over the canonbranded one as its much cheaper yet is otherwise identical

I ended up with great pictures probably due mostly to the camera i used but at least some of the credit has to go to this hood

This lens hood does provide for protecting your pics from too much sun glare and also from small objects that might scratch your camera lens
