Regardless i sawed the worn factory supports off the balls and reused the original

I think the primary fault lies with toyotas design its almost too much to ask of lift cylinders to hold this thing up

Total install time was about 30 minutes this route with someone else holding my hatch up

Seems that toyota uses loctite red to hold the factory bolts into the hatch and there is not a way to release the lift support from the ball as the directions show
