Pros

Menards has the best selection of lumber and tools. Consistency in drilling and * is great.

Cons

This looks like a decent product, but way overpriced. The instructions are hard to follow. The screws are very small in diameter, so i ended up purchasing sturdier bolts. Screws pull out and wood warps due to piston forces.

For example, our mattress is a pillowtop and measures slightly larger, this throws some of the measurements off. The pistons are not particularly good, they fail prematurely. Not happy at all.

It was easy to install, the instructions were clear and easy to follow, and the final product works great.

I was impressed by the quality of the hardware and the detail with which each step was described.

Also: the hardware does not come with the handle.

I would highly recommend going with the solid plywood option.

Price

I was fortunate to not need to buy any tools for the project so the only cost was materials specific to this bed.

We looked at already assembled units, but couldn't wrap our heads around the cost.

Materials were purchased at menards and cost just under $300.

Packaging/appearance

The only change i would do is add 10 more inches to the bedframe side rails, which would bring the bed up higher.

Competitiveness

I’m a novice woodworker, about a year in, we’ll-equipped, taking on 1 or 2 projects a month.

Even the dyi videos were great to look at a couple of times.
