If you have that issue just make sure they have pants or longer socks on and you should be good to go

The screw does stick out as mentioned in most reviews but i was able to tighten the bar in to where the screw is not an issue for my son to push himself

I put high socks and tennis shoes on my son before he rode the scooter just in case

I should mention hes almost 5 and rather tall so i think its the smaller kids having the ankle issues altho i could be wrong
