You still have to point it directly at the unit but you dont have to press the button 4 times to get it to work

It picks up the usb drive without issue the last box i tried i used 4 drives it would not pick up any of them they do have some nice videos on the website if you need help and yes i did when you want to record a programed time recording you have to switch it from view to record the video shows this it is not in the manual after i figured that out the unit works great
