This device was recommended by a cable guy because their box did not have rca output after connecting it to new tv box which has only hdmi output and plugging it to tv that has only rca inputs doesnt work this device is meant to be used with old vcr and dvd or anything that has rca output to work with tvs that have only hdmi inputs
