They offer good protection but these are not pads that you can hide under a jacket

I actually didnt buy these to practice elbow strikes but to protect my sparring partners in case i decide to throw a spinning back fist or block a roundhouse

Anyone whos eaten an errant elbow from a backfist or kicked someone only to get your instep cracked will know what i mean

However even though i went a size up theyre stiff at first and can actually cause fatigue and strain on my elbow joints

I found cutting off the straps helps but ill probably workout with them more regularly to get used to wearing them and to break them in
