    Without this it is pretty much impossible to wire up a light that secures to the ceiling

    The white plastic plate that comes with the kit is essential unless you want to see the can light on the underside of the ceiling

    I agree with other reviewers because of the angle of install for the cross brace it does help to predrill pilot holes

    If your recessed light was installed new construction with the bars spanning joist to joist the can may sit above the thickness of the drywall and prevent this metal ring from sliding over the support bar
