I read the instructions about 5 times and they are incredibly small and really confusing.
We knew we wanted a baby gate that screwed into the wall since it was at the top of 16 steps.

This gate is honestly the best bang for your buck.
I recommend using longer screws than what is included but otherwise it's a good product for the price.

Firstly it only swings one way and there isnt an option to open the other way
