Store it with the spigot in and the lid on the top.

We bought some 12 inch rubber stoppers to plug the spigot bottom and keep the dust and debris out but thats a pretty poor design for something as crucial as water

They arent leaking but they are creased and dented in

The spigot quickly gets so dirty i wouldnt store it inside with drinking water

I took the advice others and installed an oring around the threaded plug that i installed
