I did not test to see if the os is on the hard drive or some flash chip somewhere or if the hd can be cloned and upgradedreplaced

The unit comes with a 2tb hard disk drive preinstalled providing for up to 32 days recording for one camera divide from there based on the number of cameras to get the number of days supported

Cameras from other manufacturers which have support for standard protocols can be made to work but not without a bit of fiddling to get everything working
